Why are there so many denominations under Christianity?

I am Catholic and I dont understand why some people who are Christians condemn us Catholics to Hell. We pray for Mary to intercede our prayers and the same wtih Saints. Why are there so many denominations under Christianity and why are they attacking eachother? Don't we all believe in Jesus Christ? Thanks!
